The Faculty of Medicine Council convened today, Tuesday, May 12, 2026, for its 275th session, chaired by Professor Hani Hamed Desouky, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of University Hospitals.
The meeting was attended by:
• Professor Samraa Hussein, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs
• Professor Sherine El-Husseiny, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research
• Professor Mohamed Nagy, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development
• Professor Shaimaa Senousi, Secretary of the Faculty Council
Recognition of Academic Achievements and Faculty Leaders
The Dean expressed his appreciation for the outstanding performance of several distinguished departments, including Pediatrics, Diagnostic Radiology, Cardiology, Public Health, and Family Medicine. Special recognition was given to:

• Prof. Mohamed Mabed
• Prof. Wael Saqr
• Prof. Ahmed Hisham
Honoring Pioneers – Naming of Phototherapy Unit
In a gesture of appreciation and institutional loyalty, the council approved naming the Phototherapy Unit for Dermatological Diseases after:
Professor Abdel Aziz El-Rifai
Founder of the Dermatology Department
This recognition honors his long-standing scientific contributions and continuous dedication.
Honoring Distinguished Medical and Student Excellence
The council also celebrated outstanding achievers:
• Dr. Mohamed Sayed Shabaan – Lecturer, Critical Care Department (Outstanding Physician Award)
• Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Hassan – Resident, Internal Medicine Department (Outstanding Physician Award)
• Student Arwa Ali Osman – Ranked second nationwide in the “Ideal Student” competition among Egyptian universities
The meeting concluded with appreciation for all efforts aimed at advancing academic, clinical, and research excellence within the Faculty.
